Startup Zippin said that its checkout-free concessions technology is now in 25 separate stadium stands spread out among nine different venues, several of which the company has not yet named.
In a press release touting some of the company’s operational achievements — including a claim that it has reached “a key milestone” of serving a total of more than 500,000 customers at all 50 stores currently using Zippin technology — Zippin also updated its sports-stadium presence, which is quickly growing as venues and fans are attracted to the quick, easy method of obtaining food and drink. Zippin also has its technology in other places, like convenience stores and airports.
Checkout-free shopping payment systems, where customers simply take items off shelves and are charged automatically as they leave the store, are starting to multiply quickly, with Zippin joined in the marketplace by another startup, AiFi, and by retailing behemoth Amazon. While Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology has gained a few more stores lately and is up to 11 total sports-venue stands, Zippin said it is now ahead of its competitors in the space with its total of 25 Zippin-powered outlets.
In addition to the nine stores at the Denver Broncos’ Empower Field at Mile High (the most anywhere) Zippin also has stands at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center (one store), AT&T Center in San Antonio (one store), NRG Stadium in Houston (two stores), and the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., home of the NBA Hornets (two stores). Additionally, the company says it has four stands at an unnamed “premier East Coast NBA arena,” four more at two other unnamed NBA arenas, and two more at an unnamed NFL stadium.
(While Zippin would not identify the outlets for us, if you want to earn a Stadium Tech Report “field scout” hat, just send us an email with a photo of what you think might be a Zippin location that has yet to be identified — the entry gates would be the giveaway — with the location. All replies will be kept anonymous, so stadium workers, get yourself a hat!)
“Retailers are under immense pressure to deliver fast, frictionless experiences for consumers, and this is especially true in high-traffic venues where time is limited,” said Krishna Motukuri, CEO and co-founder of Zippin, in the press release.
