JMA Wireless announced it has received a government grant for approximately $44 million that the company will use to “develop and commercialize new technology accelerating America’s wireless and 5G network capabilities,” according to a press release from JMA.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that $43,940,612 in federal funding from the CHIPS & Science Act was awarded to help JMA “pioneer the domestic manufacturing of 5G Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN)-compliant radio units (RU).” Combining the government grant with $30 million in private investment funds will allow JMA to upgrade its 5G manufacturing facilities in central New York, according to the company.
In a prepared statement, Schumer said JMA’s new production capability will help maintain America’s 5G leadership, which he said “is critical to support advanced high-speed internet.”
JMA Wireless is one of the leading providers of wireless infrastructure products for the stadium distributed antenna system (DAS) market, with deployments in many venues including Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., and Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
